If you're looking for a baselayer to stand up to the coldest winter days Mother Nature throws your way - and we've had customers wear Comet on expeditions in Antarctica and Alaska - then you've come to the right place. Duckworth's proprietary Comet fabric is natural-technical mash-up, combining a fortified Montana-grown Merino Wool outer layer and a recycled polyester inner layer. Why the combo? Polyester is hydrophobic, meaning it will wick sweat and moisture right off your skin and into the hydrophilic wool layer; wool chemically begins to get even warmer when introduced to water and water vapor, thus explaining why the Comet Crew will have you feeling dry and toasty even in the nastiest conditions. By the way, this loose-fitting top is soft to the touch, meaning it works perfectly as a single layer for casual food and drinks in between runs at the ski lodge. Durable, anti-odor, moisture-wicking, quick-drying, and versatile: your one-stop-shop baselayer.

NEW FABRIC INFORMATION: You spoke and we listened - following ample customer feedback in combination with Research and Development at the ranch, we've slightly adjusted the outer-layer material to include 6% nylon for the purpose of adding extra strength to the wool yarn. The fabric also features a 315 GSM construction vs 275 GSM in year's past, for optimal warmth and weight in the colds of the American backcountry.

Cold gentle machine wash with like colors. Do not bleach. Dry flat or line dry only; do not tumble dry.

Beautiful quality and fit

"One of the best! I’m 5’10 140lbs. Most clothing lines don’t accommodate my long limbs let along niche clothing brands that are as close to home and sustainable as Duckworth. This was my first purchase and I’ll be buying here first before looking elsewhere. First thing I noticed after unpacking was the quality or wool and craftsmanship, wasn’t even a funny “new” wool smell you sometimes get. The sleeve length is perfect, where most long sleeves stop this one keeps going with a double layer for added warm and for wear and tear as you hold onto edges of sleeves to put on sweaters and jackets. The overall torso length is also just perfect. Long enough to go over the tops side of your bum so it tucks in nicely or if not tucked in is still a flattering length that fits nice under sweaters or dress shirts. There is also space in the armpit area to leave just enough breathing space so the wool doesn’t squeeze your pits! Usually need to order a men’s small in outfitter clothing to get things to fit right. As a women it feels good to be in clothing meant for a women's body when you spend most your time in the men’s section looking for length."

Q&A

Would you please let me know what the measurement across the chest is on the sizes medium and small. The medium in the vapor shirts has the perfect amount of loose fit for me, but I’m not sure if this comet top is looser than those shirts.
The chest width for the Womens Comet Loose Crew is 18 1/4" for Small, and 19 1/4" for the Medium.

Why is the comet machine washable but not the maverick?
The reason for this is because the Maverick is 100% wool, it is much more susceptible to shrinkage! Therefore, it is better to hand wash the Maverick instead of machine wash which might risk shrinkage.

These fit similar to the Comet Loose Crew! I would suggest getting the same size.
